Fighting Words is an inspiring and eye-opening realistic fiction novel by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. This book is about a 10-year-old girl named Della, and her sister Suki. Della and Suki’s mom had been sent to prison for blowing up a motel bathroom while cooking meth. Della and Suki go into foster care, where they meet Francine. Suki hurts herself, Della fights for what’s right, and both siblings decide to testify against their childhood abuser.

I love the way the author describes Della’s character development throughout the book and how she learns to be strong after everything she has gone through. I also love the way the author brings most of the world’s problems onto the surface, such as suicide, child abuse, irresponsible parents, and harassment, but I think the story plot delivery was kind of weak most of the time. I recommend this book to anyone trying to seek help, anyone in a tough spot in their lives, and those who just need someone to relate to. That is why I rate Fighting Words a 4/5.
