The only reason Alessandra attends the Shadow King’s ball is to win his heart — and to kill him once he makes her his queen. She’s selfish, manipulative, and murderous. After all, she did kill her first love after he broke her heart. Alessandra has been cast aside all her life, the spotlight focused on her foolish, naive older sister, Chrysantha. She’s tired of being powerless and ignored, she knows what she wants, and she isn’t afraid to do what it takes to achieve it. There’s just one obstacle that she didn’t anticipate — her heart.

In all honesty, I was quite disappointed by this book. The premise of it, as well as the synopsis, made me beyond excited to read it, but the execution wasn’t quite there for me. There was virtually no world-building, and the author left critical gaps in the story. The plot felt underdeveloped, and it seemed like the author lost a clear focus after the first third of the book. The romance felt so bland and forced, and I felt wholly unsatisfied after I finished the novel. Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I expected I would, but I would still recommend it to those who want a quick, filler read and don’t mind unoriginal tropes.
