When You and I Collide is a crossover story of historical fiction and hints of science fiction, which I thought was something that set this book apart from other World War Two Books. Winnie, the main character, is a high school girl who has strange abilities to see the alternate reality of situations every day. Her father, Dr. Schulde, is researching these “splinters” in reality for his government job, which endangers the lives of Winnie and his assistant, Scott. What Dr. Schulde doesn’t know is that Winnie loves Scott. When testing on Winnie goes wrong and sends her to another reality, she must figure out how to get back to her world but also save Scott who died during the experiment. Winnie has to work with the other Scott and Winnie, which challenges how she views herself and causes her to question her entire identity, but must place other’s safety in front of her personal insecurities.

I enjoyed this book because historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and I liked the way the author references historical elements throughout the book that made it more specific to the time period. The only thing I did not enjoy about this story is I think the ending felt rushed and the conclusion of the character’s lives could have been put into better detail. I would rate this book 3.5/5 stars because I liked the characters but the story itself could be paced better.
